I just watched My Hero Academia: Two Heroes movie a few hours back and I must say, I am really satisfied with the movie except for a few things.
My Hero Academia: Two Heroes was first premiered by Funimation and Toho at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 5, 2018, and was released in Japan on 3rd August 2018 (source: Wikipedia). It is the movie for the anime/manga My Hero Academia and features Deku and All Might, two of the main characters of the anime/manga in their crusade. From here on, there might be a few spoilers, so go ahead on your own risk. Though I will try to keep the spoilers to a bare minimum.
Plot of My Hero Academia: Two Heroes
Even though the movie focuses on Deku (Izuku Midoriya), the movie is actually about All Might and a friend of his from the past, David Shield, whom All Might refers to as Dave. The story in the movie takes place at an island named I-Island, a man-made island which serves as a massive Quirk research facility, having security as high as that of Tartarus.
All Might is invited to the island and he takes Izuku among with him, where he discovers that others from Class-A of U.A High are also present. As can be expected, Villains appear and take over the security system of the whole island taking everyone on the island hostage.
Izuku uses this power to save the city from the terror of villains and establishes himself as a potential candidate for the Symbol of Peace in the eyes of some important people. I am not going to explore the plot further, anything more than this could potentially spoil the fun, I’ll let you guy watch the movie to see the complete plot for yourself.
My opinion of the Plot
To be honest, the plot of My Hero Academia: Two Heroes is not much of a thing at all. I mean okay it features a part of All Might’s past that fans must have loved to see but if we put that aside, its a similar plot from many movies. So, I would say there is nothing new in the plot to give an adrenaline rush just by the plot itself.
One thing I liked is how they fit in “Plus Ultra” into everything and yet it never gets old. Whenever I hear those two words I feel like I could smash the wall into pieces (which of course I don’t try to since I love myself in good shape).
The really positive ones
There is a marvelous mix of humor, action, and emotions in the movie. The competitive (and aggressive) spirit of Bakugou always makes things interesting. Class-A of U.A high has all types of student with different personalities which when come together, create an enjoyable environment.
The action in My Hero Academia: Two Heroes is fulfilling as exciting. With Deku at full 100%, we can all expect things to get really messy for the villains. You know what? Let me give you a tiny bit of spoiler: The best thing I liked was All Might and Deku fighting together against the villains at the SAME front as equals. I have waited to see something like this for so long and finally, it’s here.
My Hero Academia: Two Heroes is a good movie, considering that it is an extension to an anime. There are many things that the movie lacks. For those who have not read the manga or watched the anime, the background given in the movie is just not enough to allow you to completely understand the movie. For those who are following the anime or the manga, the movie contains nothing considerably new. It’s almost the same old thing that we have always been watching in the anime and reading in the manga.
That said, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes does have intense action, emotions, and a bit of humor. Especially for My Hero Academia fans, just the thought of Deku going 100% is enough to make them go buy a copy. So for anime fans, it’s a MUST WATCH. For those who have not been following the anime or manga, I’d say it’s a pass. There are many anime movies which you’d feel are much better than this if you are not a My Hero Academia fan.
That’s all for this post, what do you guys feel about the movie? Do come back to discuss that once you watch it. I will soon be back with another anime
